New MOT Rules due March 20th

It has been confirmed that new changes to the MOT test, due to come into effect last year, will be introduced on March 20^th.

These changes are being made to comply with new European standards on roadworthiness, and they will result in additional checks to warning lights and wiring.

VOSA Chief Executive Alastair Peoples said of the changes: ‘The MOT test is designed to make sure that a vehicle is fit to be on the road and so it needs to be updated to reflect new vehicle technology.’

‘We at VOSA have worked closely with the industry to make sure they are prepared for the changes; and testers have been letting customers know about the new items at the MOT test for more than a year to make sure they are ready for the changes.’

These new checks will include the electronic power steering malfunction indicator, the brake fluid warning lamp, the engine mountings and the speedometer.

The changes will not affect the basic cost of an MOT test.
