Launch Tech UK’s Motorcycle Diagnostic Equipment Transforms Training at Boston College

Earlier this year, Launch Tech UK proudly donated a Motorcycle MOT IV diagnostic system to Boston College, and the impact has been remarkable. This advanced motorcycle diagnostic tool is helping students gain real-world experience in motorcycle fault-finding, electrical diagnostics, and sensor troubleshooting, bridging the gap between classroom theory and practical application.

According to Boston College:
"Level 3 students have been making extensive use of the Launch motorcycle diagnostic equipment provided to the department, enabling them to diagnose, fault-find, and rectify a wide range of electrical and sensor-related issues. To date, students have successfully identified and resolved both routine and complex faults, including wiring defects, ABS system faults, traction control issues, and lighting malfunctions. This has significantly enhanced their diagnostic competence and understanding of modern motorcycle electrical systems."

The benefits go beyond basic diagnostics. Students have also utilized the Launch borescope for motorcycle inspection, checking internal exhaust blockages, fuel tank integrity, and cylinder bores. This technology has proven invaluable for tracing hidden wiring faults, allowing learners to tackle challenges that mirror real-world motorcycle repair scenarios.

One standout achievement was the restoration of a Suzuki SV600 motorcycle. Initially arriving dismantled and electronically unresponsive, the bike was brought back to life through structured fault-finding and the use of Launch motorcycle diagnostic tools. Students identified incorrect electrical connections, analyzed live sensor data, and resolved complex wiring issues, including a parasitic battery drain and crossed indicator wiring. Ultimately restoring full functionality.

Level 2 students have also embraced the technology, successfully diagnosing and repairing ignition coil circuit faults on motorcycles with poor running issues. By leveraging live data analysis before and after repairs, learners reinforced best practices in modern motorcycle diagnostics.

Boston College reports that approximately 38 motorcycle engineering students are now actively engaged with the equipment, significantly enhancing teaching quality and practical skill development. The college expressed sincere gratitude to Launch Tech UK for its continued support, noting that the collaboration has elevated student confidence and professional readiness.
